There are always a lot of ejected rounds on the ground at a match. Seems like a lot of shooters will just leave thier unfired round on the if it hits the ground when they clear the gun, probably because other folks have and unless you have marked your brass in some way you cant really tell your round from someone elses, and you dont want to risk shooting someone elses reloads.
Where I was ejecting a live round and no one else was clearing I never was able to find a round I knew for sure was mine. And we were moving through pretty fast so I couldnt take a bunch of time to look around amongst the growing field of brass. 300 shooters shooting lost brass match makes for a large amount of spent casing everywhere.

I remember on one of my STI 9mm pistols the last thing I did to it was to clean it and after that it sometimes wouldn't completely return to battery. I field stripped it and realized I had used grease instead of the oil I usually used on that pistol. I wiped the grease off, used oil, and it was good to go again.
Yeap I was hoping t was a lube or being dirty issue too, and cleaned it after the first night and lubed it with Millitec1 which is what I use a lot of on pistols and ARs. Unfortunately no change that second day.

I am going to check the schedule and if there is a USPSA match in the area I will likely go run the gun there to make sure it will run on a "race pace" without issues.

So I have now shot a couple of 3-gun matches and a USPSA match or two with the 2011 since "fixing" the issue.
Well, I thought it was fixed..

At the Cobalt Kinetis Mutli Gun match in Utah the first stage the gun had so many issue I was ready to switch to the XDM backup. This time I was able to find one of my ejected shells and danged if it did not show light primer strikes. thinking it through I realized I had loaded up the leftover Remington UMC ammo from Texas instead of the 124GR loads I normally use. Put it down to hard primers. Swapped out the ammo and the gun ran pretty much perfect the rest of the match over two days.

Went to the next 3-gun match in Reno and had a few light strikes, chalked it up to the gun being a bit dirty.

Shot the USPSA match next and sure enough, more dang light strikes.

Cleaned and checked everything but still getting the light strikes using the ed brown ti pin and Koenig hammer. Next the firing pin spring was checked. One thing I noticed in comparing the 9mm firing pin spring to one from a .45 was it was a few coils longer and roughly the same stiffness. Weird.
To solve this I am considering a Dawson extended firing pin but in the meantime I have swapped the firing pin spring out with a stock Colt spring from the parts bin.

The guess is that the TI pins are shipped with the longer spring as a way to prevent firing pin bounce if dropped that might result in a AD.

Will update when there is something to report. Shooting the USPSA at Fallon tomorrow, so we will see how it goes.
