I have a Pietta 1860 army clone in .44 caliber and I am thinking of converting it to a open top .44 Colt; ergo, no barrel replacement necessary. I located all the parts necessary to do the job at Taylor's and I can put the package together for around #300.00.
Has anyone here done this project or something similar. I need all the feedback I can get. I am hoping that someone's experience will resove some worries. 1) My recoil plates have been milled to accept a rifle stock; will this be an issue? 2) Will the chamber centerline of the Taylor cylinder match the centerline of my Pietta engineering? 3) Am I crossing the line into stupidsville by pursuing this? etc.
