I live in San Diego and have 2 1911's I want new front sights on.... both are staked in tenon type. Based on cost and wait time I decided to do it myself. I'd like to borrow, rent, or buy used a Brownell's 1911 front sight staking tool if anybody in this area has one to sell or loan please pm me. I guess if I don't find one this way I will buy a new one from Brownell's but I kinda didn't want to buy a tool I likely won't ever use again.....Mike

The staking tool is half of whats needed. If you want to do it right you will also need to make a support anvil to buck the sight on while staking. Because there are many sight profiles, one will wind up with several anvils. -
Thanks, I'm already set up to hold and support the slide and sight.... pretty much just need the staking tool. I'll ride this out a couple days and if nothing happens i'll probably buy the tool and use it, then maybe sell the tool, maybe keep it, something......Comment

front sight height
I have replaced the rear sight on my RIA midsize slide. It came to me with the GI type sights and I have changed rear sight to a retro Harrison design sight. The new sight is .075 taller than the original. The front sight will have to go taller and I realize I will need to shoot it and do some math to calculate front sight height. If any of you guys own a Gov't or Commander length 1911 with the same rear sight(Harrison Design retro) and own calipers I'm interested in knowing your front sight height, measured from top of front sight to top of slide. Hope to hear from you.....MikeComment
