I just ordedred a set of LPA front and rear sights for my Remington 870 Tac Desert Recon Shotgun. Currently the front sight ramp appears to be silver soldered on. I need to remove this to install the new barrel bend ring attachment. Can it be broken off, or do I have to grind it off. Must I heat it first if I choose to break it off? Do I just strike it, or use vise grips to twist it?

Heat it up with a mapp gas torch and it comes right off.I just ordedred a set of LPA front and rear sights for my Remington 870 Tac Desert Recon Shotgun. You will want to file the whole area clean of silver solder before you lay down the new rosin to flow the silver solder for the new front sight blade.Randall Rausch

ar15barrels: Thank you for your reply. I will remove the front sight ramp in the matter you suggested. However since the new front sight I'm installing is comprised of a 360 degree tension band securred in place with two hex screws at the bottom, I won't have to do any surface preparation to the area once I have removed the existing ramp. Save for any deburring. Again, thank you for your answer.Comment

I would not personally trust the screws.ar15barrels: Thank you for your reply. I will remove the front sight ramp in the matter you suggested. Also get some green loctite (sleeve retaining) and put that on the barrel before you postition the sight.
That will help.Randall Rausch
