A good drill press with a good X and Y Mill Vise. I have a crappy 60$ one from harborfreight and it blows.

i've got the craftsman 12" table top (their largest bench top) i believe. its good enough for most of my needs. my USED crappy HF x-y vise is the weak link right now. the drill press has only about .005" of runout and most of that is the chuck and not the spindle. if i bought a premium chuck it made a big improvement.

but depends on what you want it for. it's fine for building AK's and small parts and inventions, plus the usual home repair. would I use it to drill holes in a nice gun of mine? no...anything under $250 is really designed for wood working. using high quality cobalt bits does help significantly vs cheap ones (my full set of 1/64th, A-Z, and 1-60 cost 3x the drillpress price!). but a skilled user could get by even with HF junk

Check your local Harbor and Freight Tools store for some...

                  I am selling my DELTA

I bought it to install Colt medallions on some grips. I did and I haven't used it since. I'm in SACTO area. Cheap includes forstener(sp?) bits.

Years ago my buddys machine shop replaced all his table tops with floor models... I thought "Man I gotta get one..."

SO I got a super Heavy duty Delta table top model from him...

His floor one are junkers... BUT the Delta is still going strong and his floor models are still piles...

I think figure what quality you want (brand wise) and what is your needs (longer piece can be worked with on floor models) but I love my old table top and I have a full on shop... Just make sure to get something good cuz the harbor freight deal is not usually good for more than a few jobs...

                          Just my two cents worth.
