During a high power match rapids. Bolt closed, magazine inserted, pulled back on charging handle (all the way) and let go of charging handle and then click. It happened three times. Chambered round on subsequent tries. Didn't loose too much time. When I got home tried it with different mags with dummy round and the bolt flies over the round in the mag. Doesn't seem the mag is allowing the rear of the round to come up high enough for the bolt to make proper contact with the rear of the round. When I insert the mag with the bolt back as on the mag change during rapids the round chambers every time. Can't figure out why. Any suggestions? Thank you.

Pmag?Hobbies: bla, bla, bla... Bought a Mosin Nagant... Guns, Guns, Guns... -
Some charging handles will bounce up and down in the receiver as they are being yanked forward by the gas key atop the bolt carrier.
This bouncing causes the lugs on the charging handle to slow down the carrier.
The slow moving carrier will fail to fully seat against the barrel extension, causing the hammer to strike the carrier instead of the firing pin.
This is most common with newer parts, especially when the charging handle is dry.
NEW Pmags can also cause this problem.
The easy fix is to lock the bolt back using the bolt catch, push the charging handle back forward and then release the bolt stop to let the bolt carrier load the cartridge from the magazine.Last edited by ar15barrels; 03-06-2016, 9:14 PM.Randall Rausch

But the bolt is passing over the round in the mag.
1.Bolt closed
2.Mag. Inserted. Two rounds in Mag.
3.Pull all the way back on charging handle and let it fly into battery stripping round from Mag.
4.Missed round in Mag. until I rack charging handle one or two more times.

Just went through all my mags and it appears to be isolated to the one Vietnam era mag that I took apart to clean. These are the ones that have the riveted steel tab that fits into a slot on the floor plate. I had trouble getting it back together because that tab and the longer follower fingers made it difficult. There must be a trick to it. I do have one of the green followers in this mag. The fingers (for lack of a better term) are longer than the standard follower. I guess to keep it from tilting too far. Any ideas?
Thank you.
P.S. Used a spent case and one of those snap-caps for chambering. Will need to make a few "sized" dummy rounds to do a proper check.Last edited by copterdoc; 03-14-2016, 9:32 AM.Comment

Yeah, magazines are a consumable item, like tires. Eventually, they need replacing. I guess you were pretty dedicated to fixing that magazine, spending two years on it. Where are you shooting XTC?Comment
