What would be the affects of cutting a 91/30 barrel down to say 26"? A professional of course.

Also how much would it cost to have it done and the barrel threaded?

It's a wee bit too tall for my gun safe.

My guess is WAY more then you paid for the rifle.

Those barrels are Cryoed in the receiver and removing them is a word I reserve for my ex-wife. There is a high chance of ruining them as well.

Most people I know either won't work on them or take the job not knowing what they got into too. The last category is they charge so much no one will pay for it.

I will not touch a mosin except to weld the bolt closed. Or turn it into a lamp or a garden steak.

There's not one true surface on that pile and they shoul be left the hell alone.

How about cutting the stock right behind the pistol grip and putting a door hinge on it?
Then on the other side you could put a padlock and hasp to keep it safe & secure while you're shooting...

Would that be the same for a M1944? I have broken those down with not too much trouble. Of course, it helps to have the right taper in your barrel vise bushing and the MAW (Mother of all Action Wrenches).
I also do some work on them. But like you say, it usually costs as much or more than the rifle did in the first place.
