    Problem with bolt catch/80% build

    Hey guys,

Completed an 80% lower. Having problems with the bolt catch.
It will not hold open after the last dummy round. It will hold open of I pull the charging handle back slowly without a mag in the well.

Initially I thought I had too much paint on the lower in the groove where the bolt catch sits, making the sides too thick, and impeding the catch. However, I filed this off, and re-lubed, and there appeared to be no change. Also I have tried multiple different mags without change.

What am I missing? I appreciate the help.

pretty sure I used the correct spring, as I recall checking to make sure it was uniform in diameter, unlike the disconnect spring,...but I do have several LPKs mixed together, so I think I will check again later. Thanks for the reply.

First off the bolt catch SHOULD NOT hold the bolt open when the bolt is pulled back and there is NO mag. The spring is there to make sure that the catch does not activate and lock the bolt open unless there is a mag installed and the follower of the mag is pushing up on the bolt catch.

Can you push the bolt catch and make it hold the bolt open when the bolt is back? That would show a free movement of the bolt catch. If that is working fine then you have an issue with the mags. Could be the mag is sitting too low.

I had the same problem in a build I just finished. What happened was the the hole was slightly too small and the pin was catching, so the magazine wouldn't push it up. A little filing to open the hole, and walla, everything worked perfectly.
