The barrel on the Remington 5R Milspec model is the most accurate barrel you will find on a sub $1500 factory built rifle.
Also, there are more CHOICES in stocks/chassis/triggers/scope mounts for remington 700's than all the other brands combined.
Also, it's not JUST the barrel you are buying.
The barrel comes attached to an action.
The quality of the action effects how nicely the bolt opens and closes.
Tikka and Remington beat Savage all day long on action feel.

Do you think a remington is better than the tikka? Looking into it I might get the remington but its hard to decide because there are not a whole bunch of places with clear cut facts about whats better. I bet its hard to tell anyways.

Was wondering which version of the remington 700 to get? is there a difference in getting a cheap 308 vs an expensiver model?

A Tikka barrel is likely better than a CHEAP remington barrel.
There is ONE SPECIFIC MODEL called the Remington "5r Milspec" which is a stainless gun with a 24" target barrel which are more accurate than all the other factory 700's.
This is Remington's model 29663.
If you want the most accurate factory 308 target gun you can get for under $1500, that's the one you order.

Tikka is cheap, so if its barrel better that cheap Remington barrel it's a plus for tikka.
Good friend of mine thought action was better on remi, got one. After I let him shoot one of my tikkas he sold his remi and got tikka. Under $750 I believe. Happy camper.
$1500 action barrel could be better.(-:
