Most "named" (meaning specialists who are really desired) gunsmiths are going to be really busy.
I could put that little groove in your slide stop as good as anyone else, but I'm not a 1911 "specialist" so I am not booked 4-8 months out...

It doesn't have to be 1911 specialists to do that job, any good machinist able to do it.
