    chrome plating recommendations?

    Hi,

I'd like to have my 1911 chrome plated.
Are there any businesses in the LA area with a good track record?

    Thanks

If you are referring to hard chrome one of the best in the business is in the LA area, TechPlate.

Tech plate. Anaheim, right next to the stadium. I haven't had them hard chrome anything, but they parked a garand and it's exquisite.

I've had techplate do their blacken Stainless finish on one of my 1911s with mirror polished sides and they did a great job. A friend of mine got his 1911 hard chromed by them and they did good also, however since his gun was tight to begin with, it came out tighter and he had some reliability issues until the gun was "broken in" again. Try sending an email to their sales guy Marshall and get a quote for what you want done.

A proper hard chrome job should include increasing part clearances before the plating so that the gun will still work correctly after plating.

Agree, so far I've only seen APWCogan mention specifically that they will do this on their website plus flaw removal. I believe Metaloy says they will plate as is, and not sure who else besides techplate. When Tripp Research used to do hard chrome they would increase clearance before plating if needed. I guess it all depends on the skills of their in-house, or out-sourced gunsmiths' skill level.
