    AR Trigger Question

Forgive my lack of engineering/gunsmith knowledge for asking this......

Is it possible to re-engineer a mil-spec trigger into looking similar to the CMC Straight Trigger?

I have one and love the aesthetic look and would like something similar on my five special project fun AR builds I'm finally going to be getting around to building.

I have around a dozen or so old mil-spec ar triggers laying around in my parts bin and wondered if it would be possible.

As they are special project builds I'm not bothered about the "quality trigger" just the look is what I want.

I would think the heat to straighten it would weaken the triggers hardness. you would have to reheat treat properly to achieve the correct hardness. IMO I would save the trouble and buy a new one.

You could look at the Mega Arms trigger or the JP Revolution M4 Armageddon...

I think I would first have to know what you mean be re-engineering.
Are you setting up sand casts?

That might be good if you have a square finger. Mine are round and so are my triggers.

JB weld in a D shaped aluminium plug. Paint black.

To do it right would cost more than just buying the one you want.

I'm curious about the "baka" what's it mean?

No... The surface hardening would prevent the change...

You can buy another trigger for the AR

ALG defense has good low price point trigger
                Geissele for high end

But serious question, why are you concerns with the trigger aesthetics??

When you put pressure on your fingertips they are actually more flat then round...

Thanks for the suggestions - I figured the hardening would be an issue.

As for the aesthetics it's because the next 5 AR's are all about looks rather than 3 gun triggers etc. I just think the plain old mil-spec trigger looks bleh on say a white storm trooper build or a chrome build.

As for the nickname I've had it since i was knee high to a grasshopper and my Sensei called me baka because i was a rather typical 5 year old kid being an dork/*****hole in class.

So spend $59 a gun for the Mega springs/triggers...or just 3D print what you want-

If you were a skilled fabricator, you could just cut the trigger shoe off the stock part, make a new trigger shoe and weld it on.
Make sure you re-harden the whole thing when you are done as the welding will likely effect the hardness of the sear.
The sear hardness is the only part that will matter on the whole trigger as it's the only wear-surface.

Could I use Cherry Red to harden the sear?

                            Yes.
That will re-do the case hardening just fine.
