    AK head space question

After pressing in the barrel pin I noticed that the head spacing changed slightly with the GO Gage. The gap is probably 2 pieces of paper wide.

    Questions:
    1. Is this close enough to be safe to shoot?
    2. If not, can this be corrected without pushing out the barrel pin? Maybe with some wet sand paper on the trunnion or bolt.
    3. If I have to move the barrel then ream the hole again, won't the barrel be able to move back to the current position/

I know that a lot of AK building is "good enough" but also know that I don't want to mess with head-spacing. Any advice would be appreciated.

    It's fine.

Remember that headspace gauges are LONGER than ammo.
Try your same check with a loaded cartridge and I bet you find that the bolt cam completely rests against the trunnion.

check it with the bolt in the carrier. You'll find that it headspaces differently. Probably tighter. I always do the final check with a live round (no firing pin) of my preferred ammo. I've also seen headspace open up a slight bit after the first few test fires so I tend to make it tight when I press the barrel.

AK head space is supposed to be tight. You are actually on the loose side of things but still plenty safe. you should actually have more of a gap.

Awesome advise guys. The live round closed perfectly. It feels great to finally finish that project.
          Thanks.
