I just received one of these 1911 frames from tactical machine. There seems to be some differences from side to side. The hammer area is .012 off from each other, magazine slot is .009 off, dust cover is.008 off... You guys have any experience with this? I know this happened in the past but thought it was fixed.

Also measure the deck height. And check the alignment of ejector front leg hole to disconnector hole. Specifically, check if the ejector retaining cross pin hole is not drilled through the disconnector opening.Hobbies: bla, bla, bla... Bought a Mosin Nagant... Guns, Guns, Guns...Comment

I did 2 of those frames, If I had to do it over today I would be picking a different frame. Its just not worth the headache.
I believe the main "fix" was the grip safety area. If yours appears to be good, you got one of the "new and improved" ones. Think hard before putting alot of time, work, and parts into it if it doesnt meet the standards you want.
Best wishes on your build.A day may come when the will of man fails, but it is not this day.Comment

I peened the edge on mine toward the inside to close up the gap a little. The new frames are better in that respect, bit they still seem to have problems with centering their openings/slots.I did 2 of those frames, If I had to do it over today I would be picking a different frame. The 1911 builder frame I'm working on now is all matching..The only reason I ordered this TM frame was because it was supposed to be the "new fixed frame" apparently they are not or you have to get lucky to get a decent one. I'll be sending this back and ordering the 1911 builders frame. Thanks for your input guys.Comment

I'm sure you have a wife or significant other you can go pick a fight with, I'm not it. Go people police someone else. I'm already working on a 1911 builders frame now and want a few more. Thought I'd try the TM frame due to the rail, and some reviews saying they were fixed.Comment

What happened in the past was far more exaggerated than that. The grip safety area was severely chewed up as well. Some were coming out with the ejector cross hole pin not drilled correctly as well in the VERY early runs.
Unless you're working from a forging or billet, there likely will be some side to side variation. Castings aren't perfect unfortunately. What those translate to are .006, .0045 and .004 off center from each other. Roughly 1-2 pieces of paper of thickness.
They're definitely far better than they were, but the design of the casting doesn't allow machining in those areas at all, or very little... which is why we are working with a new casting company and a new casting. It allows machining on all areas except the magazine well.
Feel free to send anything you don't like back, if you aren't happy. We aren't happy. We absolutely can not hold .001-.002 on every part on these castings, we don't have enough control over them. Hopefully in the future the new casting house will prove it's worth.Comment
