    30 inch AK underfolder...

As much as I want a functioning underfolding AK I have yet to determine a satisfactory way of achieving the 30 inch minimum required for California compliance. I wonder if a permanently attached bayonet would fit the bill?

Permanence isn't a requirement per the law, but I'd see about making it at least take a tool to remove.

Besides the bayonet I know there are a few members here working on some good solutions to be coming out soon.

I'll let them post the info if they'd like.

        Wait. I take it back.

There is no good way to do it.

        Don't buy an underfolder.

Don't buy any folder for that matter.

Once this comes out, everyone in CA will want an underfolder, and the prices will skyrocket even more!

Too funny. I got a little carried away buying folder kits so I've been bouncing ideas off Charlie and he rolls his eyes and says it's too obviously something from Home Depot. Since posting this I got another idea...

I am going to be doing a M64 milled to stamped conversion, and plan on making a 4 inch (or there abouts) muzzle brake. If others are interested, I can make a handful of them. I have hook ups in the machining industry and it is possible someone has a tap, but if not I will just buy one. I have access to a mill and lathe to build em. The threads are M14x1mm LH, correct?

Any hints as to what end of the rifle this goes on or do I have to wait 2 weeks for an update?

Try Rick's Muzzle brakes. He makes a 14-1mm LH muzzle brake that will make the OAL over 30".

That first link for one is 125 bucks! screw that. The second link is more reasonable at 46 shipped, however I was just thinking that the easiest think would be to take the little muzzle brake stub that is already on the barrel, and weld an extension onto it. I could probably make em for 10 bucks each.

That last one is still $95. Why are they so expensive? I'm going to start mocking up some weld together ones.
