Convert standard BCG into a side charger?

Hey guys, anyone know of anyone that ever has drilled out the side of a Bolt Carrier and installed a handle to make it a side charger?

I've contemplating my next build and the bolt I want to use is proprietary so I can't use the current in production side charge bcgs.

Do you not want to use a non reciprocating side charging handle like

It should be pretty straight forward if your proficient with a drill press.

No, i'm using something much simpler...

That upper, but I want a handle on the carrier like...

Only catch is, because the carrier i'm using is proprietary (Troy BCG that goes with their PDW system) It has to be custom done.

I have never actually used one, just thought it might be an option. Seeing as how he probably doesn't want to ruin his proprietary BCG.

I recently started an ar pistol build with a side charger, I found a guy selling a OPS4 for a decent price and picked that up with BCG, but before I found that I was planning on drilling a stock BCG group out and milling the slot in the upper myself. unless you know what your doing and are really good with a drill press I would recommend having a machinist drill and tap it for you. It shouldn't be to hard to find a guy that will do it for a decent price.

I will just throw this one out here too as I found it interesting when I was searching for a side charging upper, you should be able to use your BCG, this just comes with a modified cam pin that should fit right in. But I have not heard wether it is a good system or not.

You can use the Gibbz Arms Side Charging Upper by just replacing the cam pin. No milling work required.

The X-Products upper is a rebranded Gibbz.

Can you do it Randal? Or do you advise against it?

Its gonns eat up drill bits like a fat kid eats chocolate cake. Even a cobalt bit will have a hard time. This isnt something a HSS china bit will drill through.
If anyone has succesfully drilled through a carrier, please tell us what kind of bit you used.
I have US mfg Cobalt bits and a carbide endmill I could try.
