    Buying an AK kit online

I feel like this website is going to burn a deep hole in my wallet. I've recently built my first AR-15 and now I'm looking to move forward to the next project. After seeing some AK builds on this forum I think that's the route that I want to go. Just so it's not as big of a hit on me financially, I'll probably buy what I need over the course of a month. So what sites or dealers do some of you have experience with? I've found a couple online that seem okay, but I really don't know how to tell the quality of these kits just by looking at them.

Are a couple that I have found. Any thoughts or recommendations for other sites and dealers?

Check this out. The tools to make a flat are the most expensive part.

Toth tools barrel jig works great, although grade 8 all thread works for 7.62 builds. I made my own bolt cutter jaws, but the Toth tool ones are great too. Akbuilder flat bending jig is good, although going for a heat treated blank from childers with childers drilling templates might be a bit cheaper, and then you don't have to bother heat treating your flat. Long rivets I did by hand at first with homemade punches, and I've since built my own long rivet jig. Again, Toth tools is good for this guy too.

Buy good drill bits if you are doing heat treated blank builds, you will destroy standard bits pretty quick.

There are also a ton of people selling nice jigs over on the akfiles, I recommend you spend a good bit of time over there reading up on builds.

They both have nice kits. Curtis at AK builder does the head spacing saving a lot of work. Go with what you can afford.

I've bought a couple kits from Atlantic, and lots of tools, rivets, supplies, and parts from AK Builder. I've never had a problem with either. I also use Childers blanks, they are first-rate.

There's a lot of hidden cost aside from the kit... the amount of tools you will need get expensive really fast. Putting a ar15 together vs building a ak47 is night and day. difference. You should look at the cost of tooling 1st.

For a first build pre-headspaced and populated is much easier to play with. Arms of America and Akbuilder are nice for that.

Before you buy a kit, you need to do a lot more research in building a AK from a parts kit. AR you just assemble. AK is a lot more to make a receiver. Price out the tooling.
Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.

If your goal is to end up with 1-3 finished AK's, it will be cheaper to just save up and buy them already done.
If your goal is to end up with 5+ finished AK's, then it starts to be more affordable to build them.
There is a LOT of tooling cost to get that first one done as nicely as most factory guns.
The first one will surely be way more expensive than simply buying a finished gun.
A lot of people end up building their first one 2 or more times until they get it right.

Ak-builder is my number one place to buy tools ect for AK builds( went through 2 of all his rivet jigs in the last 12 years and have another full set of his tools on the way), requiem arms makes a lot of cool tools as well but some of them u need a wholesale account to even buy, requiem arms also sellers barreled and headspaced kits and offer dealer discounts on them

Another good source for original barrel kits as much as i hate to say it is gunjoker, yeah there are lots of bad deals on there too but if u watch real close u can find the ones that are good, I got a 5.56 bulgy krink kit with factory barrel the other day for $650, that's a steal in the current market. I didn't even need it as I'm sitting on about 30 original barrel kits with matching numbers but had to grab it at that price

Do you have a shop press? If not that will be a starting point. Gunthings.com has some tools after buying their tools and shipping you with in 20 ro 40 $ of the ak-builder.com tools
If you bend your own receiver you have heat treat it. More tools and supplies. Just buy one done already
