    Limited-10 dustcover width

Those of you with builds based on these frames, are you milling the dust cover width down? Are STI, Fusion, etc, slides wider?

I have 6 slides of different brands....none slab. But they are all .015-.020" narrower that the dust cover on my aluminum and stainless limited-10 80% frames. Not much talk about those builds on the forums so I'm not sure what others are doing.

Thanks in advance for any guidance.

    Hi there,

what is the width on your dust cover? I had originally planned to do a Limited-10 long dust cover build also and purchased a slab government slide from Caspian. I'll measure the width on my slide tonight to see if also narrower than your dust cover. If it is a good match then you'll have an idea whose slide to purchase next for a good fit.

Just measured my Caspian unique profile 9mm slide, it is 0.911" wide. Hope that helps.

Thank you. Dust cover is .935 wide

It is sold as long/wide but I don't get why so wide? Will need to mill I guess, sneak them in to work.

Interesting. I just ordered a limited 10 aluminum frame with Tac Rail myself. Will compare this when I have it also.

Most STI slides are around .926-.928 in width. Caspians vary throughout print size which is .911-.916 or so. Long/Wide dustcover configuration is pretty standard at .926-.930+ depending on the mfg. Even at .911, see how things look in the end before machining the width. I bet nobody would notice unless you made them look for it, MANY custom guns go out the door that way.

Do you guys have the 80% frame I ordered (aluminum with tac rail) in stock? Just wondering when I might get it to play with.

                Sorry for thread hijack...

Has it been 6 weeks. I think it takes about 6 weeks for the frames to ship.

                    I'll be milling them.

Same thickness? sure. Wider slide? sure. Wider frame? Sin

That said, your work is fantastic. All 4 slides are within .001" or less of each other in all dimensions I checked. 2 aluminum, 2 stainless shipped a month apart.

I do find it odd that you would choose to make it wider than the most common slides people would use with their builds, but hey.....These are platforms for full custom guns.

Still get an A+ and my recommendation.

No need to be sorry. Not enough people are talking about this fantastic product.

Long/wide frames are traditionally .925-.930+ across ALL mfgs, and is not unique to our frame. They are thickened for weight, looks, and also to add more material for threaded scope mounts. Not much material on a standard dustcover to thread and tap screws into.

Why aren't you guys making stainless 80% frames anymore?

By the way MosinVirus, I am watching your videos over and over to familiarize myself with this 80% process... Still have my hesitations but still itching to try when I get the L-10 frame. I already have my 1911builders' aluminum frame and my Stealth Arms Phantom jig but the slide I have is reserved for the L-10 frame. I don't want to use my 1911builders' frame as the "test" but Stealth Arms don't have any test frames now...

nuggethunter and MosinVirus, where do you guys go to shop for your slides typically? I found a few places that have slides in stock but not many have exactly what I want (5", 9mm, unique profile, rear serrations, bomar rear and novak front cuts, flat top or tri-top). The one I have now is actually a bald unique slide from Caspian which I'll have to find a local smith to do all the cutting. I know I can order a custom one straight from Caspian but their lead times are pretty long at the moment... Thanks for the lead in advance.

Phantom jig will not work for the l-10 frame, by the way. I hope matrix modifies their new one before full production to allow double stack frames to fit.

You may find the slide you're looking for at shooters connection or 1911store.
