5.45x39 BRASS

I am researching whether I should invest heavily into purchasing the equipment to manufacture 5.45x39mm brass (not ammo, just the brass).

This has been an ongoing project for me and I am now researching market viability. Not to worry, this is just one avenue that I am looking at.

I dont think you can find brass for 5.45 man. I think most people reshape .222 cases.

There is one company that re manufactures brass from another caliber which charges almost $3.00 a round.

how much would something like that cost? personally, i don't reload and would probably not get into it, would just buy more 5.45 ammo. to be competitive in the market, your prices would have to be on par with current 5.45 ammo prices.

Hardly. Seeing as how reloadable 5.45x39 is non existent you could charge quite a bit for it. Currently the only option is to cut down and reform .222rem casings which aren't cheap and it's a relatively laborious process. I'd be a happy camper if I could get purpose made brass for less than 50 cents a piece.

Once you look at the cost of a 200 ton punch press and a deep draw die I think you will figure you it's not worth it.

Not to mention the dies and don't mean reloading dies I mean a progressive die mounted in a die shoe.

Then you'll need a operator and a toolmaker to maintain it.

your best bet would be to get a die made and have an existing shop run the parts for you.

Unless there were definite buyers committed to taking sufficient numbers of cases I'd think your venture wouln't be likely to succeed.

Think it would help to know how much you think you could sell the product for (and make a "be happy with the return").

People could make the decision once they hear a ball park price.

You could also pitch it to AKM vendors. Sales probably are poor in California since its hard to shoot ammo with bimetal jackets anywhere. I know they're off my 'consider' list just because I can't get brass. If Atlantic, or whoever, offered 500 rounds of brass cased, reloadable, non berdan primed ammo for $X with purchase.... it would work for both parties IMO... then once you're in the door / on their vendor list/s...

Actually sales of brass cased 5.45 would be great in California due to ban on steel cased ammo due to our drought.

You can't get new 6.5 Creedmoor cases for 50 cents a piece and there are a WHOLE BUNCH of people buying new brass cartridge casings for the Creedmoor.
On a "boutique" reloaders cartridge (which the 5.45x39 certainly would be due to the cost of loaded ammo), I would expect the demand would be QUITE a bit lower and the price to be higher due to the low manufacturing volume.

222rem has the wrong case head size to make PROPER 5.45x39 cases, though 222/223 are as close as you can get in cheap brass to start with.
