I would like to mark my anodized 80% lower just to avoid potential hassle. Since the lower is already anadozied so i cant do the home etching and wanted to know if i have any other options other then paying for laser etching.

In order for the markings to be legal for transfer then you need to mark the same as a manufacturer.
Model=what ever you want
caliber=what ever you want
s/n= must be 1/16" in height
name= you legal name, whats on your drivers license
city=city it was made
state=state it was made
all at least .003" below the surface, we engrave .012" typically as it must be legible and visible.
99% of laser will not go deep enough, etching might not either. -
I used a transfer punch set from harbor freight. I stamped one 80% with "P" just to make it easier to distinguish it as the pistol 80%, the other stays unmarked and is the rifle lower.
easy.
Assuming your 80's will stay yours forever, you can put those marks anywhere and in any form. destroying my 80's will be a problem for my kids.
If you wanted you could use an engraving pen too, but the stamp keeps it neat. tidy. And a no brainer if you just need to put one letter or number on there.
I'm sure if it looked "close enough" to proper, you would "avoid hassles". Even if you still couldn't transfer them. (Since I believe the vast majority of us do 80's to keep them, not transfer them)Last edited by Whiterabbit; 10-06-2015, 4:49 PM.Comment
