    Need help with new rail

Ok so this might sound dumb, but here's my situation.

I had a complete AR, but decided to change it up a bit. I removed the original A2 front sight, and installed a new low profile gas block to fit under a new rail. The rail is a "Midwest Industries 2-Piece Gen 2 Handguard Quad Rail". The problem I'm having is the rail is attached at the D-ring, but is too loose and the barrel end.

Any advice or tips on what I need to do would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You are trying to free-float a handguard that is NOT designed to be free floated.
The rail you have is supposed to be snapped in between the handguard cap (behind the FSB) and the delta ring.

You need a different rail to do what you are trying to do.

Thanks. Things are starting to make a little more sense to me.

What would be the point in a rail like this then? You wouldn't run a fixed front sight in front of it, would you?

I don't think you can a run a 2 piece as a free floater. Is that true?

Yes you would run the fixed sight in front of it, the rail is there to attach accessories.

I don't know of any 2 piece fee floating rails, so generally speaking "No" you can't free float a 2 piece rail.

There are two piece free floating handguard. It sounds like the one the op has is not.

They are a cheep way to make a mall ninja out of you...

and Yes there are two piece free float tube Daniel defense makes them for the M4 (some AR nerd will chime in with the model number)

They are expensive as hell but after seeing two and installing one for a customer. All I can say is you get what you pay for.

Let's say your Uncle Sam issues you a plain rifle and you want to mount a light on the handguard for busting down doors looking for hadji.
Your uncle won't let you remove the barrel nut, but you can snap a set of railed handguards on it yourself.
When you are done with that rifle and your uncle asks for it back, you dig those plastic handguards out of the bottom of your footlocker and snap them back on the rifle.
