In 30 plus years of playing with guns I've never had a scope base come loose on any of my weapons, I have seen loose bases and rings on other peoples weapons though.
The only sanding I do to the base is to insure good adhesion of the bedding material. There's no point in sanding everything in to a perfect fit if you're just going to put a coating of glue in there. That's the whole point of the bedding is to eliminate the work involved in perfectly fitting bases

Here's the other thing I see people do, the spend top dollar on the rifle, mags, gun bag, etc yet buy the cheapest POS scope, base and ring set up.

Do yourself a favor and buy good quality glass and a way to mount it

That being said I failed to mention Mosin's
I use 1/8" 6010 or 7018 that has been left out of the oven for few years, set the amps on the AC buzz box to 125 so it splatters all over the place, weld it up good and ugly, call it good.
Ill also weld the bolt handle on too...

Guess Uncle Parkers sanding it down isn't the proper way ? Funny , before he died he probably did more work on guns than most here ( also wrote a few books and articles on the subject . Uncle Parker was a family friend not blood related ). But if you say making the parts fit as close as possible isn't right , well I won't do it then .

Got TSOB mounts for it , you know , the ones made for it ,Good enough ?

And was thinking of just welding it , really want a strong mount
Don't want to hit anyone in the head with a flying mount and scope .

Thanks everyone for the help .

The point I'm making here is that you do not "need" to lap the base to the receiver.

If you choose to do so there is no harm but then why bed them if they fit that well to begin with.

The act of bedding anything is to increase the surface area contact. Just like bedding an action to a stock. it's a quick way to get a perfect fit on the action to wood or composite stock. You could however spend a month with small scrapers and a oil lamp slowly and carefully fitting the stock to the action, Or you could spend a day an bed it.

Same goes for scope bases. you could sit there and hand lap the bases to the action until you got a perfect fit but there is no need to be that accurate.

What you want is a close but good fit, the fit doesn't have to be perfect but it does need to be close. Then bed as usual and call it good.

            Thanks for the picture Randall.

The two times I've removed scope bases from recently purchased PPT revolvers, I unscrewed them and that was it.

Will people ever forgo the drill and tap and just be able to get away with the epoxy?
I'm guessing no but thought I'd ask.

Thats not something i'd admit to.

It's like admitting to picking up a transvestite. It just shows a complete and total lack of attention to detail

Or is it transgender now?? or Sans cerebellum???

Revolvers don't get bedded because they have shoulders to handle recoil.
There are no scope bases that simply glue-on.
