I posted a while back about a couple of Marlin/Glenfield .22 rifles I picked up that had belonged to Stembridge, a company that supplies guns for movies. One, a model 60, cleaned up real well. I put TechSites on it and it shoots great. The model 70 was filthy and the receiver was busted; I took it apart and sold the pieces. The barrel on the 70 was threaded inside the muzzle. After some questions in a thread here, I found out that a plug would be screwed into the bore to make the rifle function and feed with blanks.
Today I walked into the same gunstore and made a deal on 2 more Marlins; a model 60 (missing the inner mag tube) and a model 70HC without a magazine. I knew of another gun store with an assortment of inner magazine tubes for $10 each. New these can cost $40. I found one that fits -- the follower is broken but it appears to function -- if you know where I can buy a replacement plastic Marlin .22 tube follower please let me know.
The 70, again, has those threads. This time there's a special treat - something in the bore. With a bore light a little light got through but the bore seemed obstructed. A flashlight lit up a hexagon about an inch from the muzzle, an allen screw. A little work with a hex key and the obstruction was out. The bore cleaned up well despite the fact that it had probably not been cleaned after the last time it was used. I found a magazine in stock at Sportsman's Warehouse.
The Model 70:

The threaded muzzle:

Removing the screw:

The screw is out:

There is a small hole drilled through the screw so some gas can escape out the muzzle.
I'll try to get out tomorrow and see how it shoots. I suspect it will group okay because the threads are larger than the bore. If needed I'll counterbore it.
