    80% help please

Hey all. My friend is doing an 80% Anderson w/Anderson jig. Standard mil spec trigger . t He has the main fire control pocket at 1.249 depth. the safety selector just wont go thru. Hammer is cocked.
See pic of the safety hole .

If he goes down more , can he got too much? Meaning does the trigger need to ride on the receiver or can it float above it? Doe he have to get the depth perfect? his calipers read 1.249

Sorry. Yes the hammer cocked. Should he put the safety in before the trigger?

I've typically put the trigger in first, as some triggers don't like going in after. However, I don't see any real problem with changing the order, but the fact that it doesn't want to fit does indicate a problem.

Push the trigger pin out, then try putting the safety in. If it goes, try to push the trigger pin back in.

Remove the trigger and hammer. Does the safety selector go in and rotate? If so, then install the trigger after. I ran into a similar problem in the past.

Thank for the great answers. Safety lines up and rotates fine when trigger is out. Had him try putting the trigger in and it worked. Hes not a forum dude but he is stoked and I , as always, appreciate the knowledge here.

safety selector won't go through or will it not go in at all? are you sure the hole is .376"?

When I do them and I use a 3/8 bit, i have to run a round file through there a bit to open it up.

                    1) trigger
                    2) safety
                    3) hammer

this makes life easy with stacking tolerances and I am sure you will be fine.

I had an assembly guide that I had followed different times. It was in a different order. I sent to him but I didn't think about changing the order of install.
I do like the idea of, maybe opening up the safety selector.. I went and felt his, it stiff but works.
He did do the Selector at 3/8ths like the instructions said. I wonder if there is a better size that matches? I know there are some alphabet sized bits and such.

                        Just ream it out.

There shouldnt be any need to go larger. Ive done maybe 25 or more lowers on a mill and always test fit the safety after drilling. I test it as a sanity check to make sure I used the right size and Its ok to continue. Its always loose. The hole will be bigger than 3/8. I ream it after milling to get rid of the burs. For the hammer and trigger, I use #23 drill for the hole then a 5/32 reamer after milling.

Someone said it earlier, the technical spec is .376 so you drill with a 3/8" (which is .375") then ream to .376".

I have never had someone who just drilled to 3/8" call with a problem.

The safety selector hole was a problem for me, I found sometimes I needed to make it slightly higher (file the upper half). It's always snug. But always try to install everything before filling the holes.

Try selector first then trigger, I found I had to do that a few times.

If you insert the trigger first, check to see that the tail that interacts with the safety isn't fouling up the path that the safety travels through. On one of my builds the FCG was measuring deep enough but still needed one more pass with the end mill in order for the trigger to set deep enough for the safety to install. When looking sideways through the safety hole it was clear that the trigger was sitting ever so slightly too high.
