    Lightweight barrel material.

    Hello

I want to buy a pencil profile or lightweight barrel. I was originally looking at faxon barrels. But with shipping and everything they are almost $200. I found a 416r stainless at a lower price. Did some research, some folks say it's not good to do a thin profile barrel with stainless. Yet alot of manufacturer are making them. Purpose of rifle is to be a lightweight shooter. To shoot a maximum of a 10 round mag dump at the extreme. At the minimum plinking. No tactical classes or anything like that, it's for my son.

I read that in extreme temperatures the barrels will fail from within. I'm not planning to go outside shooting if it's freezing cold.

I need an honest answer without hype. Thank you.

4140 and 416r are the most common for making barrels, you wont have a problem with either material.

      Thank you.

I just keep seeing post of ppl saying the barrels will blow up.

Yet I see big name manufacturers selling them.

If you only shoot in conditions where a long sweatshirt and jeans are warm enough, the barrel material won't matter.
It's only if you were getting the gun sub-freezing where you should be concerned.

Flattered you have been thinking of us!

Either material will be good to go. Stainless will give you slightly better cold-bore accuracy. In terms of durability, so long as you are rapid semi-auto only (no full auto), you will not see a major difference.

For the pricing, Brownell's, AIM Surplus, and other outlets will likely have the barrels for less than the retail price.

Hope one can work out for you.

Thanks for taking the time to comment on the post Nathan. That's the customer service I like. This helped ease me to pay the extra bucks for the barrel. I ended up getting it from one of your distributors for only a few dollars more than the other. Thanks again.
