    FAL receivers...

I just bought a metric Imbel FAL parts kit and from what I see so far DSA looks like the receiver to buy. Any first hand experience? From what I've read so far Enterprise sounds like a good place to do business

Search the FAL files before you buy a receiver. I have 30 FAL DSA receivers on back order and they are way behind.

DSA still seems to hold the "Championship Belt", but it looks like the new Entreprise receivers are "Good to Go".
Here is a review of their new receivers by one of the most respected FAL builders in the game. He's also not one to mince words, so you get the real skinny: http://www.arizonaresponsesystems.co...agefalent3.htm

So, if you want a FAL, and you want it "NOW", buy from Entreprise. They are also sponsors, supporters of Calguns, and Californians.

No, the championship belt goes to the Imbel receivers that were only $179. Damn I should have bought more back then.

            FAL receivers not available...

I was at the Crossroads of the West show at Costa Mesa this weekend and so was Enterprise. In spite of what their website says about receivers being in stock they told me they are several months backordered. It appears nobody there knows how to change the info on the website.

DSA is WAY overated,I don't know the difference between their rcvr and
anybody else' as far as BUILDING a rifle but as far as a FINISHED product
Entreprise and SA FAL's are just as good---and yes I have owned and

It took over six months for me to get a couple of DSA receivers ... and that was a year ago. They're well-made, but if you're just ordering one now ... fuhgettabotit.

I ordered some 10-round mags from Enterprise and they were also well-made. And Enterprise has absolutely superior customer service. If you want a receiver, I'd recommend them.

You don't know the differences but yet call DSA overrated? DSA receivers are made from a forging which are stronger while Enterprise are made from investment castings. DSA have always been in spec. Finish means little is the parts don't fit or it doesn't function.
While investment castings are used by many companies some want a receiver made as it was first designed using a forging. Springfield M1a's, Ruger rifle and pistols are a couple I can think of at the moment that use castings.

In the past Enterprise receivers were hit or miss which has earned them a poor reputation from FAL builders. A few who do it for a living wouldn't even touch a build on their receivers.

Currently they seem to have solved the problems and I can't comment on the latest receivers.

I haven't built a new FAL in years but have built 3 on earlier Enterprise receivers. All 3 required machine work to complete. Not just a little fitting but actual time on a mill to get them to work. I have never heard of a DSA requiring that.
Problems were charging handle lug slot was half the intended size, nose of receiver was cut at an angle causing the barrel to sit at an angle, mag wells cut too big on 2 of them so magazines flop around side to side, oversize locking shoulder hole, barrel hitting receiver face before barrel shoulder locking up, gas tube threads rough and undersized.

"Forgings" like Dsarms are also overated in todays
world of investment castings. Springfield Armory's M1A rcvrs have been going
for many years with very few problems. If you have time for DSArms go for
it. As far as their standard grade rifles I still see no difference between them
                    and Springfield or Entreprise. Pete

You really can't go wrong with an Imbel or DSA receiver. I have no experience with Enterprise so I cannot comment on them. Since you are going with an imbel parts kit, I would suggest an Imbel receiver if you can find one at a reasonable price. They are getting hard to come by. DSA will take a long time to get to you if you order one now but they make a good product. I also suggest getting the gunplumber's FAL building guide.

This thread is full of lolz . . . that's about all I have to say until I get back to my laptop and post pics of EAI investment casting flaws. Frankly any manufacturer that doesn't use licensed drawings and machines is subject to the occasional turd receiver . . . even DSA. I had to send back a DSA turd a couple months ago.

I've got a couple Entreprise receivers, all have been easy builds. With no issues.

I've also assembled many of my friend's kits onto Entreprise receivers without any issues. Besides having to buying larger LS (locking shoulders) for head spacing.

Another plus for me was that Entreprise were able to mark my receivers with custom serial numbers to match my parts kit. I also had them mark one of my receiver with custom German markings for my German G1 FAL build.

So how many FALs have you built?

Forgings overrated? Maybe to some but how many people have had problems with out of spec M1a receivers? I have seen quite a few where scope mounts would not fit. Go over to the FAL files and ask about earlier enterprise receivers and see how many were also out of spec.

While investment castings work if I have the choice I will take a forging.

                              FAL receivers

Thanks for all the info and thanks especially for what I asked for; actual experience. It appears opinions can be intensely emotional. I posted in the Want To Buy section hoping to find a receiver for sale. If anybody knows of one gathering dust I will pay a premium price to get one I can turn into a rifle. I don't know how but I managed to get in on everything that interests me right when it's almost too late. Off list AR lowers, AK's, FAL's. It's so frustrating that I find out about these things just in time to hear that the price of everything has gone up. Is this some kind of punishment for the way I lived the first part of my life? LOL Bob

P.S. Has anybody used Ohio Rapid Fire FAL Receiver?
