80% lower questions

So I bought a few of the TM 80% lowers the other day. I took a look at one of them and noticed is was slick and shiny. I'm going to build one of them into an AR pistol (5.56) and the others into AR rifles.

These will be firearms that I plan to keep forever. That said, nothing last forever. So I think it would be prudent to have them engraved while they are still paper weights. What information is mandatory to have engraved? I believe it's something like this:

Model: (For the pistol, can I just write Pistol? Otherwise AR?)
Caliber: (I see most people write "Multi". What does that buy me?)
S/N: (I'll make something up).

Manufacturer: Does this have to be my name? Can I use some fictitious manufacturer name? (Downey Gun Works)
Location: Downey, CA

Also, to keep costs down, I will probably just rattle can these myself with some Aluma-Hyde. About the slick shiny surface on the lower, should I have these media blasted or any other kind of prep work before I rattle can them? Or are they good to go?

There's a sticky at the top of this sub-forum that will answer all your questions about engraving.

Any time you paint anything, proper prep is essential. While blasting would be ideal, you might get away with scotch-brite.

If you have something on the metal, use a solvent to remove it. Brake clean or lacquer thinner are about the most aggressive. Then start with blasting the metal; if you don't remove the slick stuff first, the blasting will only drive it into the metal and then you get all kinds of fish eyes and other spots the finish won't cover.

I run mine thru the dishwasher then only handle with clean old tshirt never put bare hands on clean metal.

Yes the sticky will help, but IIRC, the engraving requirement is only if you plan to register them or sell them. If you plan on keeping them they don't have to be engraved or can have engraved on them whatever you wish.
