    XD trigger job?

can an XD's trigger be cleaned up at home like a GLOCK? The re-set and legnth of pull are real bad. Does it need to be sent off? or can I do somthing

its' not like a glock.. I would say that unless you can get parts from some supplier (B Hostetter or Springer) then I would send it off to Springer/Canyon Creek.

I've smoothed mine out a little with some judicious polishing but that doesnt address the reset or pretravel or LOP. For that, you'll need new parts or make necessary modifications.

I would wholly recommend sending it out to Springer Precision or Canyon Creek if you find the trigger on your XD unacceptable. My buddy has an XD worked on by Springer and between the trigger on my XD and his, I wasnt jaw droppingly impressed by the difference. His trigger is definitely better, but after comparing, I opted to save the money and stick with my (fairly) stock setup.

Or you could do it yourself with a kit from Powder River Precision. There's a tutorial on how to install it on XDTalk. It will lessen the overtravel. However, it probably is not as good as sending it to be done by the pros. Good if you want to go cheap.

Actually, it is quite a bit like a Glock. Polishing the right spots can smooth things, but I'm not sure exactly where those spots are.

If you drop in a trigger kit from Springer or Bob's Custom Shop, it will smooth the pull and make it feel a little lighter. If you actually get the trigger bar from these guys, it will eliminate a lot of the take up and the reset. I've never worked with the Powder River kit, but it seems like this would take the trigger even closer to a full-blown gunsmith trigger job. It involves drilling the original trigger bar, though.

I usually shoot an XD9 in competition with a full-house trigger job (by Canyon Creek). You're talking $130+ for the work, plus $50-80 for shipping. It's worth it if you are serious about winning. But I recently got an XD45 Tactical and put the Bob's Custom Shop trigger kit in it (but still using the original trigger bar). Shot it for the first time in competition last weekend, and it really is a nice trigger without spending a fortune. I figure I may add the after-market trigger bar and it will feel like 85% of my XD9 custom trigger.

By the way, it is pretty easy to do the work yourself. It just helps to have some good instructions.

Ouch that $130 for parts that need fitting. I did the $15 trigger job (Polish and bar) on my G17 makes IDPA more fun Can a local smith be trusted to do an XD trigger job or is it just better to mail it off?

Dont do it. Ive seen several with light primerstrikes after a trigger job.
They dont need it. Learn to shoot it, like it is.

I sent my XD9 Tactical to Canyon Creek. Best trigger job I have felt in an XD. Sure others are nice but Rich knows what he is doing. I use my XD in competition like Gryff, nothing compares. I had to send my Glock 35 to Charlie Vaneck to have it worked on after getting my XD done. These guns are for competition only.

I used the Springer Precision kit. No light primer strikes for me
I especially like the short reset. A friend has one done by Rich. His is a little bit cleaner than mine, so I believe they do a little more than just drop in their parts.

It wasn't that difficult to do myself, but if you do have problems, Scott will walk you through it over the phone. I don't think you would go wrong send it to either Scott or Rich though.

Two guns with full-blown trigger jobs...15,000-17,000 rounds through them total. Zero light strikes.

Besides, a light strike is going to be a factor of either the striker spring or the recoil spring. Neither are changed in a trigger job.

Also, Bob's Custom Shop's sear, trigger bar, and springs total only $105, and you can do the work yourself.

Look into the Power River kits. I think I spent about $65 and put it in myself in about 45min. Awesome results!!! Check out the thread on XDTalk. Great product.

A trigger job on the XD doesn't create light strikes at all (that I'm aware of) because of its design. The trigger is not directly linked to the firing pin or spring, so unless you replace the firing pin spring with a lighter one, you will only get a great trigger with one of these kits on an XD. I have the Powder Precision on mine and it's great.
