    drill press question.

this summer i am planning to invest a few bucks and get the tools needed to finish 80% receivers. i have decided to go with the easy jig made by 80% arms. i dont trust myself to keep straight with a hand drill so i am going with a drill press. i live in an apartment and dont have room or cash for a giant one so i am looking at the desk top presses on amazon. is this press good enough to finish 6065 lowers? eventhough i am not going to mess with it yet can it do 7075? the RPM looks good, but some advice from pros would be great. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...f_rd_i=desktop

It may not be tall enough to accommodate the jig, Look on craigslist for a slightly larger table top drill press, for the same price or less. Buy good drill bits, it will speed up the process, I would only buy the end mill from 80 percentarms. Do you have a router? this works great; http://www.homedepot.com/p/RIDGID-1-...4012/100337039.

I am going to get their tool kit, it has the mill and bits needed. No I don't have a router yet. I was planning on getting the one 80% recommends, bUT I will give yours a look.

Their drill bits are not that great, they will warp, I highly recommend buying some decent bits, they cut faster and will last longer. both the 3/8 and 5/32 warped. Ace hardware carries some good bits. the end mill is good to go. A good 3/8th is probably the most important bit to buy quality, and all the drilling it performs. good luck.

an 8" drill press is probably too small. the problem is that you need a long bit and the lower with the jig stacked on top is pretty tall as well. even with my 12" drill press i need to remove the bit from the chuck every time i want to start a new hole. with an 8" press you probably won't have enough clearance.

i did my first 80% lower with an easy jig and a hand drill. it isn't that difficult. there is a lot of metal on the drilling jig, so you really have to screw up bad to go in crooked. a drill press will probably extend the life of the jig considerably, but the jig should last for at least 4 or 5 lowers using a hand drill.

the key is to go slow and use a sharp bit.
              my Benitez goes to 11
