    First rifle build(extra piece question)

Hey all, i just completed my first m4 style build(maybe, depending on the answers i get here)and at the end of the build there was an extra piece left from the Lower parts kit. I followed a couple guides and youtube videos and everything checks out alright. Full function tested and everything cycles correctly(i didn't actually put a bullet through it yet as i don't have any as i will not be able to hit up the range until tomorrow) and am not so sure what the piece is actually for. Included pictures will show the part in question and a full picture of the gun. The piece is small and looks like the safety detent, but is smaller then the safety detent has the flat back but has a slightly hollow inside on the other end. The Safety does function properly as does the trigger group and the charging handle and the bullet buttoned magazine release.

Any thoughts on what this piece is would be greatly appreciated as i don't feel 100% comfortable putting a bullet through it at the range with a loose piece.

    Extra take down pin?
Where did you get the LPK from?

How small/large is it. Perhaps a pic with a dime or quarter for comparison?
      Sorry, not sorry.
      🎺

Dear autocorrect, I'm really getting tired of your shirt!

Did you check all your parts prior to assembling? If you're 100% sure all parts were installed, then that could just be an extra part the seller may have inadvertently placed with the rest of the LPK parts.

It almost looks like a takedown pin. But there's no way, looking at the size compared to the quarter. I would say it's an extra part that somehow found its way into your lpk. But it's not an extra part meant for your M4, I don't think.

ETA -- It's hard to see in your rifle pic. But did you change out the receiver end plate with a sling-mount type? If you did, it could be an alignment piece. If you have the stock end plate, then forget about it.

If you can account for all the needed parts being installed, don't worry about it. It's just a bonus part. I've gotten an extra take down detent a few times. It through me off the first time. Not sure what the part you got is though.

I don't recognize that part as belonging to an AR. Never seen anything like it in any of the parts kits I've used.

                Good luck.
