    media blasting?

I am wondering what grit colt or springfield would use to blast the top of the slide and front of the frame? My frame is stainless and has some scratches I would like to remove

it's probably glass beads they used, it produces a nice soft matt finish

maybe 120 grit aluminum oxide, glass bead may be too agressive

Aluminum oxide is harsher than Glass bead but blast at a lower pressure setting.

What media can i use at home with out a blasting cabinet? Is sand my only option? My mother in law has a compressor. I see harbor freight blasting kits cheep. Cabinet is not in the budget for a bit.

If you have a compressor all you need is a gun, hose, and fittings. If you use sand you just let it go. If you use aluminum oxide or glass beads set up a crude way to trap it and reuse it.

I was worried about it getting into the yard or drain . It's California. The clean fresh coastal air will cause cancer! I just do want to do anything that will get me a ticket

                      Other way around, my friend.

Send it to a bluing outfit and have a factory polish/blast done to it. Cheaper in the long run than buying the equipment to do just one, especially if you are looking at economy priced blasting equipment.

Where are you located? most machining shops will have the equipment needed and would likely do it for a small fee. Or a place like TechPlate will definitely do the masking and blasting with a quick turnaround. Unless you plan to do this several times over, the results and costs are going to be better from a shop

If it is just holster rub on stainless. You may get by with soda blasting it. For just the topstrap of a pistol/revolver even a smallish pancake type compressor should work.

Here is a link to an on the cheap DIY setup.
