    80% P228 (P226, P229) availability

Hello, long time lurker, first time poster.

I'm relatively new to the 80% thing, but it's been a long time since I've had as much fun.

I've got some AR and 1911 projects going and I feel like I missed the boat on the 80% Sig frames. I've been watching for a while for one to come up, and when they do they seem to go for big money.

KTO has up on their web page that they are closing, and that they have 80% Sig frames in stock. I called, and they said they sold their stock and they are not closing entirely, they just will no longer stock anything. He said he'd do 100 @ $300 each.

I reached out to some of the other 80% manufacturers and got cold to luke warm reception about the idea of making them.

So my question is, since I've seen group buy info on here before, is there any interest? I am not running a group buy and I will not accept any money.

I would have the manufacturer directly process the orders or ask someone else trusted in this community to handle those transactions.

Of course we would need a part to send to the ATF and all of this would take at least 3 months. If I could get my hands on an unfinished 80% frame that would be a big step forward to kick off the project and I'll pay a hefty deposit to borrow one or buy one.

Let me know what you think, thanks!

I swear I just saw a pair in the market place for around 900 bux. I think they were complete kits too.

KTO sig frames are horrible. Read the group buy posts if you want more info.

Was hoping to improve on the quality considerably.

I have 2 80% 1911 frames in 7075 from the gentleman I am trying to get interested in doing it, and they are REALLY nice, far better than the TM Recon frame as far as attention to detail and just having a part that isn't full of burs and chips. I didn't need to spend 45 minutes with a file to finish the frame is what I'm getting at.

His concern is new parts availability. I see used kits on ebay for $145 minus frame and mag. Gun Broker always has used kits in 9mm for P228 as well.

        It's Sig or maybe an 80% G17?

Where the hell did you get a KTO frame that wasn't a POS??

TM are far better as far as i'm concerned. KTO 1911 is rough as a cobb, It's useable but Rough as a cobb

As cheep as Glocks are it's not worth the effort to do a 80%.

Yes AR's are cheep too, but the 80% market was founded when you could not get a complete AR in the state for less then $2000

I didn't say it was a KTO frame.

Stealth Arms and 1911Builders shipped me frames in aluminum and steel that were properly deburred with NO TOOLING MARKS.

I'll post pictures of all 3 side by side when i get a chance. The advantage the TM frame has right now is steel with a rail. I'm now waiting for a stainless with rail. If TM came out with a Commander frame in a rail I'd buy another. No axe to grind, just could be better.

The TM frames I got had burrs I could have cut myself on. I still think TM frames are a good value, but i'd rather have spent another $20 for a finished product. Also, the cuts for the rails in the casting to get it to .750 were off center .008" on one and .006" on the other. Not the end of the world, but honeslty it's been bothering me alot. if I want the slide centered on the frame I need to weld them. One was a blem for that reason (.008) the other was not.
