1911 re-finish question

I just got into 1911's end of last year and bought a new SR1911, because i love safe queens, lol, i also bought a used SA loaded champion to shoot the heck out of. Its a great condition but does have some light holster marks in the matte finish on top of the barrel and under the trigger guard/frame. How do i get rid of the marks? none are gouges just light rubs. SHould i polish out the whole thing or Bead Blast? not sure bead blasting is how they do it at the factory.

420 grit sand paper. Just rub front to rear. You can give the whole gun the brushed look. For the sides of the slide do it on a flat surface.

The hardest part is keeping it straight so it looks good.

Yes you can bead blast it for the matte look, but still do the slide sides with sandpaper for the factory look.

Thanks, the sides of slides are factory and i dont really want to alter them and the finish is good. The only thing i want to do is the matte areas

If you present for from the holster another 10,000 times or so, it will have great character.


So the question is how do you remove a mark on the Matt area of the slide so it cannot be seen by the eye?

Bead blast the entire surface that you want to be Matt.

So pull the sights,mask off the other areas and blast.

OK i think I am clear, i have a large blast cabinet and beads the only thing i dont know is how to remove the rear sight, there's a spring under there? I also have a sight pusher tool for the front.

Cover the sight with duct tape. Use a razor to get the fit right. Then blast away
