    magnifying visors

Getting more into gunsmithing with 50+ year old eyes. Leaning towards a Donegan 2x at 10". I know everyone's sight is different, but any recommendations would be helpful.

I use a donnegan to paint 1/35 figures.

I think it's the max magnification.

The focal distance is really short, five inches or so, and so they take sone getting used to. They sell a very expensive cased set that has every mag, they switch out just like dillon tool heads, two pins.

No complaints other than above. In the model making word, they are the go to. Harbor freight makes knock offs, but I don't screw with my eyes.

ok it seems the choices are single set with plastic lens or bite the bullet and get the kit with glass lenses. the glass doesn't seem available in singles so ,, is the glass lens any better quality then the plastic?

I just ordered a pair of these to try. I know the 20x is a lot of magnification but, I think the eye pieces can be changed easily with a couple cheap sets of eye loupes.

I use those for specific problems. In the shop/cave I wear bifocal safety glasses
and also have a combo gooseneck light/magnifier.

I use an OptiVISOR 2.75x, which is a good balance between magnification & getting your nose caught in the mill. One word of caution, those OV lense frames pop out of the headband too easily. Glass lenses versus acrylic, it's your call. I don't know which survives a shop environment better. Mine (glass) have a minor scratch from hitting the concrete floor, but might be better than acrylic for long term clarity when exposed to metal chips & oil. Dunno.
