    Replacement for naptha?

I have used naptha for years, cleaning all kinds of things including delicate finishes on vintage musical instruments. That is some useful stuff. I always kept it handy in the shop.

I was running low so I walked into Home Depot the other day and they said they don't carry it any more. No problem, as there is a Sherwin Williams store nearby. I'll swing by there. I walked into the Sherwin Williams store, and the guy told me it was his understanding that the state of Cali has decreed "No More Naptha For You!" VOC's, I guess.

My question is, what is this tinkerer to do? What is the best substitute for my beloved naptha? And where do I get this substitute product?

Assuming I'm not moving out of Cali, or driving to Arizona.

    Hep me. Hep me.

Zippo fuel or Renzol if you need a little bit.

You may be in a special CARB zone and if you drive out of that area you can find it.
VM&P naphtha can be had at real hardware stores, and Rockler hard wood supply

Thanks, KC. I'll try Rocklers the next time I'm out that way.

I might have to start hoarding. Just in case.

Coleman Camp Fuel=White Gas, a good substitute.

Best substitute for Naptha is Heptane which is the ingredient in most rubber cement solvents.

Try Bestine it works very well and is 100% pure Heptane

Thanks, Gary! I will try some out, since I keep it on hand for painting anyways.

Thanks, Pat! I'll snag some of that the next time I'm at Turner's. Good tip!

                Thanks, Dan!

I checked the link and they have a store in downtown S.D., Little Italy neighborhood. I will swing by and snag some, and then reward myself with lunch.

Here's a tip for you: One of the greatest sandwiches in the world: The Italian Village Special, from Mimmo's Italian Village, 1743 India Street in Little Italy. Order it "toasted". Outstanding sangwich.
