          When I made the birdshead for my 870, I just held the wood doweling with my hand and used a hand drill. Didn't sound like a smart idea at the time but it worked out in the end.

            All done! I Might Re Strip The Wood and clear it.
            Next is a stock I cut down and used a synthetic stock butt pad. I put it in the belt sander. Some inner plastic is showing throught. It is functional. Now I'll strip and linn seed oil it to match the rest of the wood

                  I work with wood for a living, you do not need to go to all that effort. All you need to do is fill it with auto body bondo and hand sand it flat. You can the drill the small pilot hole and you're ready to go. I refinish and repair 870 stocks all the time. It works.
