    Question about 1911 spring plug

I recently recieved a RIA 1911 GI , the gun came with a universal drop in bushing comp. ( no debates on whether or not it makes a difference, i like the way it looks.) Any how the comp won't drop in with out some modifications either to the weapon or the comp. My question is by cutting the length of recoil spring plug will it do anything as far as performance, and is it safe to do so. It only needs to be trimmed a small ammount. I hope that makes sense. Thanks for the help.

I cut a few coils off my recoil springs if that helps. Gun actually runs better.

I don't hunk you're doing something wrong. There's no reason you should have to do anything to the spring plug.

Thanks everyone who responded. I just wasn't using enough elbow grease apparently. I had to beat it into submission. Any how its on now, I will be test firing it soon to see if it works and how well. Thank you once again. Have a good one.

You can trim the plug nose down, just don't cut all the way through the plug and expose the spring.

Also, you will need a gap between the comp and the plug/slide altogether...otherwise they will hammer into each other. Most comps have a relief on the underside just for the plug.

              I miss read your post.

If you look up the directions for the Wilson Combat offering the say - May require fitting of Wilson's Two-Piece Guide Rod (sold separately as product # 136-387) or having your stock recoil spring plug shortened to 1.2".
