    10 round "California Class"

The preperations are being made for the California 3 Gun Series.

Venues being scouted and talk of a 10 round class.

10 round pistol and rifle and the shotgun is still up in the air. Would you guys want USPSA shotguns or HD style shotguns?

    I'll forward this along.
I move slow but I make up for it by shooting poorly.

When I hit the lotto I'm only shooting factory.

This class would mostly be for newer shooters, people that got into shooting after 2000 and don't own AW's and large capacity magazines.
The likelyhood is high that people that only own OLL's would own pump shotguns.
Some will own autos too, but newer shooters tend to start with pumps.

The 10 round class isn't a bad idea but anyone serious about shooting the series will probably make friends with people and be able to borrow standard mags from people in their squad. As long as they aren't using a bullet button rifle, they are fine using borrowed mags.

I think the 10 round class won't get a lot of participation and probably won't be honored or scored at each match kind of like heavy metal.

Yes running 10 round mags on a 35 round rifle shredder stage has huge disadvantages to someone running the same stage with a 40 round mag, but how many people are actually doing this now at the local matches?

Who knows, maybe the 10 round class will get lots of new shooters which would be great for the sport.

I think that's the main reason for it.
There's no place for new shooters to go in 3gun right now.
With only owning 10rd mags, they feel at too much of a disadvantage.
With a dedicated class and separate scoring, at least they can see how they fare against other shooters limited to 10rd mags.
Then, as they make friends and adjust their kit, they can shoot in regular classes with large capacity mags.

Do any clubs in CA have a 10 round class now?
The next big match is the winter classic in Bakersfield January 24th right? Maybe they could have a 10 round class and advertise and get the word out to see how it pans out.

El Dorado gun club runs an IDPA multigun match with a 10 round cap on rifle and pistol. It seemed to work well, as long as you take that into account for your stage design.

The Cal. class would be scored it's own class. I'm a bit surprised there isn't more interest in this class with all the OLL's and post ban shooters on this board.

I have been pushing for the 10 round class for a while. I hope the NCPS USPSA club will have this 10 round class for their Thanksgiving weekend match. Any club in Ca that does not offer a CA 10 round class is going to be missing out on attracting new young shooters. IDPA has been setting up rules for 3 gun with 10 round limit and there is a lot of interest in this.
Our sport needs new shooters, any way to attract them is an advantage to all of us. Look how much IDPA has grown with a 10 round limit. Our Sac Valley IDPA club has about 75-80 shooter per month average, our USPSA club average is about 35. I shoot both. I strongly suggest that we do everything we can to encourage our clubs to set up a new 10 round class.
If you can't shoot good, at least look good shooting

If you want a 10 round class you guys will have to talk it up and generate some support. I know Wayde is in favor of it and I'm pretty sure he is going to have a class it's up to the 10 round guys to show up.

Now, can both BB and MMG shooters participate in the 10 round class or is it mainly for BB guys?

It would be for people only using 10rd mags.
It's up to you how you choose to reload.

Anyone with a monsterman grip and a featureless build could certainly be loaned large capacity magazines if they did not want to shoot in the 10rd class.
With bullet buttons, you are stuck in the 10rd class.

A 10 round class might get a few shooters, but my guess is that most people that don't have high caps will borrow from friends or other competitors. However, someone with a BB will still most likely get their behind handed to them by someone with a MM grip, so the MMs would still rule this class and the new class wouldn't really make much of a difference to the guys with BBs.
How about only allowing BB/fixed mags in the 10 round class?
