Was wondering how many of you guy's get your Mags Tuned?

I'm no Open shooter, but I have had the misfortune of knowing a few

38 super or super comp are popular calibers in open, but there are options, such as 9 major. The caliber dovetails in with the other choices, like the comp and the springs, so it all works together as a system. Working up a load is a part of the journey.

Tuning the mags is something your vendor might do for you, and then you just keep them clean and the springs fresh, but this is true of all springs on all open guns.

or anyone else that pops your tarts. They can all make a great open gun, and you should speak with them before committing to anything, as the information they give you might turn you in a new / different direction.

Little personal tweaks like which optic, side or top-mount for the optic, thumb rest, steel or aluminum or titanium or composite grip, racker, etc, etc -- you'll have to try some open guns and find out for yourself, so get a pair of crutches, take your busted ankle and hobble out to some matches, speak with the Open shooters, slip them a 20 if they'll let you empty a mag into the berm, and start taking notes.

Once you've tried enough things you can start asking more specific questions, preferably on the Brian Enos forum.

The good news is that most of the top smiths have such long waiting lists that you could grow a new ankle from scratch by the time your gun will be ready

The big difference really comes down to the availability of the brass. 38sc brass is hard to find and can be expensive while 9mm is plentiful and cheap. The other big difference is powder availability as there are only a few powders that are good for 9major (Autocomp, Hogdon CFE, etc). So really, it comes down to cost of brass vs availability of powder.

Maybe he's got some 170mm's from back in the day, or maybe he's going to shoot Open 10
