Figured we could just use this as the main thread instead of making a new one every 2 weeks.

Prado Olympic Shooting Range host an IDPA match every 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month.

Are you comfortable with drawing, reloading, and moving with a gun safely (i.e. always pointed downrange with your finger off the trigger)?

I'd go ahead and just bring your gear and dive right in. Lots of people will be willing to help you out during the match.

First time shooters, are not generally required but should bring a 'cover' garment.

Cover garment is a vest/jacket that conceals the firearm. The test that is conducted at sanction matches is where the shooter wearing the cover garment lifts both arms at shoulder height (like a scarecrow), the garment length needs to be covering their firearm holster.

I did not have a cover garment my first time. They were cool about it.

Another thing is for new people to stop by the convenience store just due west of Prado, make sure you pick up some light provisions: water/refreshments and a light snack. You will be surprised how hungry you get when the adrenaline coarse through the veins in competitive shooting excitement.
