STI frame for SSE

This is more of a handgun question but I figured I'd ask the people that compete with the STI 2011s, are you guys SSEing frames? Gunfighter tactical here in San Diego says they have done a few frames but the user has to provide a slide. Has anyone done this? Issues?

Second question I'm looking for the best all around STI setup so I was thinking edge 40, do all the 2011 frames for 10mm/40 work in this platform?

I'm competing in 3gun, steel matches and maybe uspsa.

You can't SSE a stripped frame, only a complete gun. You would need to add more then just the slide.

Thanks GM, correct it has to be a complete gun to be SSE, capable of firing a single shot. It doesn't need sights correct?

I'm suprised you found an FFL that will do a frame only because that has been a rule for some time. It does not need sights for SSE, after all, you might want to run Open Division with a dot. You don't need 40S&W for 3 gun or Steel, 9mm will work, but you will need it to make major floor for USPSA.

Thanks kahrguy, that's exactly what I was thinking and I usually get 40cal for my glocks and do a conversion down to 9mm. You can't swap barrels for STI can you? 9mm would probably be all I need but I want to be sure.

Limited-10 in San Diego will do a frame - I think they build a complete gun around it for SSE.

These builders all take about one year to build these guns, I wonder if they need all the money up front, has anyone here paid to have their 2011 built, and how did it work and how much?

I wonder if I could send payment checks throughout the year.

Big name builders like SVI or Akai do take a long time to build you a gun. 1911 Speed Shop built mine and it look 3 weeks.

I have been shooting USPSA for about two years, I started in C class and was happy with that for a while, then I decided I wanted more got a trainer this last year and am shooting like a B class shooter now, as soon as I get a couple more B classifiers I will get my B class recognition, I broke my ankle last weekend so it’s going to be a while before I get back out there.
I have been shooting – Production, Limited, Limited 10 so far, I decided That because the SSE was going in January I should Buy a STI 2011 Frame for Open
I Know nothing about the Open class and I never shoot in a squad with the people who shoot open so I don’t know the lingo or what I want in a Open gun.
I now have the 2011 Frame so next step is I need to decide what caliper to shoot, I was thinking 38 Super, and it sounds like the Big Stick mags should be tuned? ( that is my next step I will be taking )

Is Dawson the place for that or Brazo Custom Guns.

9mm or 38 super for Open division. There are pros and cons to each.
Buy a reloader unless you're willing to pay the price for open division ammo from Atlanta Arms and Ammo (there are other ammo manufacturers for open ammo)
Or you could shoot factory ammo and claim minor scoring.

I have a reloader already, I would like to hear the pros and cons on the 9mm or 38 super.

I believe 38 super is the most popular?
Is it wise to have your mags tuned?
