Shooting Coach

What does everyone think about hiring someone as a shooting coach.

I am talking about someone offering one on one advanced training designed to address a limited number of issues as designated by the student. These sessions would probably run 2-4 hours and again be narrowly focused on working on specific areas. It could be offered for the pistol, rifle, or shotgun, either self defense/tactical issues or competition based.

Anyone think there is a market for this type of training?

Taran used to do it before he got famous, so yeah, there's a market. It's just limited in scope.

I do from time to time...one on one...sometimes to their specific needs. And I don't charge! I find that shooters really don't want to pay!!! Unless maybe you have some championship status.

But lets keep in mind that a lot of GM shooters got to where they are at from many years of practice, regardless if they have championship status or not! And am sure while not all are good at coaching or have a range for their use, there are some GM's that do have a lot to offer to beginning shooters. And beginning shooters would be foolish to overlook that avenue of expertise.

I imagine it'd be extremely cost prohibitive.. I don't know of anyone who's "that good" that's willing to do it for cheap.. on the same note, I dont know anyone who's got that kind of cash and looking to get specialized 1 on 1 training..

I'm sure there are people who can afford this and trainers who will take the money, but realistically, do you expect this kind of situation to have long term sustainability?

There's def a market, and there are GMs currently serving that market, at least here in San Diego.

Also important is range access. It's almost useless (unless you're a beginner, and I guess there's dry-fire coaching) to hire a USPSA GM to coach you if all you can do is slow-fire, no draw from holster, one target in your lane-type shooting at an indoor range.

You'll need access to a place where you can set up multiple targets, multiple distances, barricades, shooting on the move, transitions, etc, etc, etc.

I would think covering the cost for the admission to the range should be more than enough. Remember, we want to increase our numbers.

I would be interested and willing to pay $75.00 for two hours.
Speedrrracer hit the problem on the head regarding range rules. I consider myself a very good shooter as long as I am slow firing with two hands. I need training for drawing from a holster and double tap.
