    CA Revolver for ICORE/USPSA

Gotten the bug to start shooting revolver. I'm thinking about shooting Limited in ICORE. Not sure what that would translate into USPSA.

Anyways what revolvers should I look at? Any on the list that's moon clip compatible and competitive?

    Thanks.

Since Feb 1, I'd say, get a 627 or 327. That shoots Limited in ICORE and minor revolver in USPSA. 8 shot and already uses clips.

Get a S&W 929... Will be the gun for ICORE, and will be a strong contender in USPSA. Problem is, unless your name is Jerry Miculek, it will be vapor ware for the foreseeable future. Moon clip, 8 shot, 9mm, what is not to like. Run some 126 PF 147 grain ammo and you too can hit the X ring at 25 yards.

If I'm not mistaken, the Performance Center makes a 5 inch 327 that's on the roster. I don't really care for the underlug contour though. I was thinking more of the 327 R8

Ya... The 929 would be the ideal platform for competition. But, i doubt we see it here in Ca for a while..... The 627 would be my choice over the 327 for whats currently available. It's 100% stainless and heavier than the 327, which adds necessary weight for recoil management. The 327 would be more for Steel Challenge... In revolver shooting, all of the recoil is managed through your grip strength. It does not have a slide to absorb it, and it lacks a beaver-tail and thumb safety to lock your hand to the frame. So, the term.. 'grip it and rip it'.. is the real deal here..!!!

Do you have to do any mods to use moon clips with the 627 or 327?

Most performance center 627's are already Moon clip ready.. the less expensive 627's save money by not being Moon clip ready.. the 929 is absolutely moon clip only since the 9mm is a rimless cartridge.. I know several competitors who already have the 929 on order..

I don't mean to jump in, but what does moon clip mean?

They're metal clips that hold cartridges for a revolver. Sort of like a speedloader without the handle and it stays with the cartridges for loading and unloading:

Regularly participate in local USPSA matches in Single Stack with a Sig Scorpion; however, every once awhile will decide to give a revolver a try. For those wheel gun efforts, use a S&W 625-JM. Employs the use of moon clips and allows me to stay with a single caliber (.45 acp).

I'll likely continue to use a 610 for ICORE.. just the most reliable revo I shoot and faster to reload than the 627.. I may eventually use the 627 platform again, when they came out with the 929, it's the revo I've wanted for a very long time.. it has the 6.5" tube I wish they'd have offered in the 627..
