    Never take your eyes off

Never take your eye protection off, never. You may forget your ears, and they will ring for a few minutes, but your eyes can't be repaired. I got fragged twice today, fortunately the full bullet went into my arm, and the frag just below my right collar bone. Bruised the **** out of me, no body pics, nobody likes old guy pics.

    Jeez. Glad you are ok

I had to lecture a friend awhile back while we were shooting steel .....he took his eyes off cause they were "uncomfortable". I guilted him into doing the right thing. Spatter can be bad when shooting steel.

Shooters recognize the need for eye protection, it's usually the spectators who don't get it. I will stop the match until they glass up or leave.

Yep. I had a fragment embedded in my head last year.

Damn, man. I'm glad you're ok. Care to share the details of how it happened? proximity and angles and all that...

The jacket came off the steel on the bay we were shooting and I have no idea where the full bullet came from. It's not uncommon to get a frag, but a full weight bullet is another thing. It had obviously not impacted on anything.

We had a guy get a bit of spatter to the right upper lip today from steel while shooting IDPA. We thought he caught a bullet the way he jumped... Be careful.

I see a lot of people shooting with regular glasses or sunglasses and almost all spectators wearing regular sunglasses. They are not designed to withstand any kind of impact. I sat on a pair one time and the lens shattered into dozens of razor sharp pieces of hard plastic which would have done more damage than whatever broke it. Since then I only wear wrap around safety glasses for shooting and watching.
