Does you club allow shooters to shoot a second gun?

One of the things that our club has kicked around is shooters that shoot a second gun at a match.

    The concerns are:
    1) While these shooters are enjoying the shoot they are not helping reset and tape the stage.

    2) Shooting the second gun gives them an advantage with the stage.

    3) As you know, there others..............

So, the question...Does you club allow shooters to shoot a second gun? If so, what do you charge if anything?

1 of my clubs does but there are only about 25 shooters at the multigun match and the reset is straight forward. Shoot twice, pay twice.

The other 2 uspsa clubs don't.

I am not sure if your question was directed towards pistol or multigun but I would gladly pay twice to shoot twice. The second or neither run can be for score. I just want to shoot for more than 3 minutes. 5 stages at 30-45 seconds per stage.

Maybe limit the number that can shoot twice. First 5 to sign up. Maybe They pay 2.5 times.

Myself, I've shot with 2 guns only at Ron's Steel Madness match. 1 Pistol + 1 Shotgun. Base fee was $30 and the 2nd gun was $10 more.

I've never seen it happen at 3-gun.

I've shot two guns at different so-cal IDPA matches. Second gun was normally half price.

I am often asked to shoot first on a stage and last. I think that lets you still help tape and set equal to the rest of the squad. And the deficit that often comes from shooting a stage first gets lessened by shooting last.

Orrrrrr, I'll just shoot the same gun but sign up for two classes. Say SSP and ESP and shoot them with the same gun. More bang for my buck and then I'm not wasting time with holster and mag changes as well.
Competition is where you find out you're slow, can't see well, are not accurate, have poor gun handling, can't visualize, have equipment that doesn't work and either accept it OR DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.

Yolo used to allow shooting two divisions but stopped allowing it when USPSA became very popular.. ie, when the shooter list exceeded about 50 shooters..

Oakdale still allows multiple guns but they use open squadding... Not sure what their fee structure is..

Oakdale charges $23 per gun. You can shoot as many divisions you like. I've seen a few people shoot 3 guns. Beginning in January the fee now goes up to $25.

Norco and Palm Springs USPSA will let you shoot more than one gun, pricing structure varies depending on if you are a member or not. If shooting the same gun in division twice, only the first score counts for stats, 2nd score for reference. Scoring, resetting and taping has nothing to do with shooting more than one gun, helping is helping, not helping is not, whether they have one or more guns. Sometimes we shoot different guns (centerfire pistol, shotgun and rimfire rifle) at Palm Springs, and everyone still helps. You just rotate out a couple of shooters so they can get their gear together.

Only 50 per match? Wow, we would be done by 10:30am. Try over 100... I thought USPSA was always popular.

Given Yolo's location that's really solid.

50 is the number they used when they stopped allowing two guns, now they are just like Richmond with lots of shooters going up there on the 2nd Sunday.. they have only 3 bays and usually do between 4-6 stages.. last I heard they were into the 70 ish shooter range.. when you only have 3 squads, that is a very long day indeed.

One thing that will free up their range is that now there is a range closer to the SF bay area with a 2nd Sunday shoot day.. Diablo recently became an affiliated club so now anyone looking for a place to shoot a classifier that counts can go there instead of the extended hike up to Yolo. Diablo has 5 bays/usually 5 stages and up to a 100ish shooter capacity.. If Diablo frees up some of the people who used to trek to Yolo, they may re-allow a second gun again..

ISI in Piru allows for a second gun in a separate division. You have to run through the course completely before getting a second score sheet so it doesn't back up the squads. They charge less for the second pass.

If you run an identical gun it is scored as "second gun" and you get a score only.

Granted, it does give an edge for people running a second gun but I am glad they do it. It allows me to shoot a compact and a revolver in the same match. More shooting = more fun.

At Sac Valley Vintage Military Silhouette Rifle (third Saturday of the month) the third relay can be filled by shooters with a second rifle. Line fee is $20 with another $10 for the second rifle. Most shoot different classes so any advantage to multiple rifles doesn't exist. It fills the relay and allows a guy to try another rifle. This last match I shot Open with my first and Sporter with my second rifle.

Yolo does just fine.. I don't hardly shoot there anymore.. but they build on Sat, shoot Sun, and after the last shot fired on each bay, everyone is expected to help tear down and put everything away.. every last fault line, every nail, every wall.. They are usually done by about 3 pm.. this from a 9:30a start.

Most of the matches in Norcal get done about 3:30-4p at the latter end or as early as about 2-2:30p on the early scale.. experienced builders and Match directors contribute to tryng to keep things even so there is hopefully no waiting around.. but with anything, new MD's and experienced MD's are intermixed through out the year.. at least at Richmond.. and we are now required to tear down stages and clear the bays after every match.. If you've been to Richmond for the GBC the last few times it was here, I was the MD so I speak with a bit of experience in running the larger matches in addition to the way we like to run the local club matches..
