    First IDPA match

I just did my first IDPA match today at Prado. It was a blast!! I took the intro to competitive shooting class a couple of weeks ago and it really helped in understanding the basics.

I did okay on some rounds, and not so well in others. Need to learn to not worry about speed and just be accurate. Everyone was cool. I'm definitely hooked. I thought I was an accurate shot, but it's way different having to shoot while moving or behind cover or prone or kneeling compared to just standing there and hitting paper.

Can't wait for the next one in two weeks.

I too entered my first IDPA event this last weekend in Piru. So much fun! All the S.O's were great and helpful. Can't wait for next months match.

Don't wait a whole month. You can also shoot compact/revolver, Steel Challenge, and ZEV Speed Gun (replaced USPSA) at Piru. Plus the Action Pistol match put on by the Deadwood Boys. Then travel to Prado for their IDPA match 2x a month, also 5 dogs at Bakersfield, and Americana 1800 at Stevens Ranch.

Then try a USPSA match, lots of those around too. By that time you will be ready for 3 gun (minus the $4,000 for gear)

I'd like to try IDPA since I saw some videos the first time. For me, this can be applied in a real life situations compared to USPSA and IPSC. Knowing how to utilize barricades and obstructions in our surroundings is a must for self defense. How much are the fees? Thanks for the input.

Piru is $30, and I think Prado is a little bit less. Most clubs also give a discount for IDPA members.

Except for the shooting faster and more accurately part of USPSA in the US, IPSC is for the rest of the world.

Hmm, when I shoot slow and miss targets in IDPA I always seem to lose? 2 -3's = an FTN and I can't shoot a .40 or .45 to make up for bad hits.

Personally i think all newbs should read this before entering the comp world. Also everyone else to understand the new mind. Very informative.

Will go to Prado with a few calguns buddies for our 1st IDPA. Soo Excited.
                        Just a question.
How much ammo did you end up expending?

Bring at least 150 rounds in case you have a re-shoot.

That's whats called a Tactical Plumber. 17 times through Front Sight, but whose day job is a plumber. It would have been a more believable article if the author had actually shot an IDPA match. People who think like that belong in the desert all by themselves, very, very away from everyone else, and medical care.
