Richmond IDPA Classifier - May 31st

We are holding another IDPA Classifier at Richmond on Saturday, May 31st for those interested in shooting the Golden Gate Regional Championship or just simply getting classified in IDPA. Space is limited and priority will be given to those who are signing up for the Regional Match.

    Details:
    - Start time @ 930am. Please be ready to start shooting at that time
    - $10/gun with which you want to classify
    - Minimum of 90 rounds required (more if you want to re-shoot any of the stages to attempt to improve your score)
    - Hat, sunscreen and bottled water recommended
    - No concealment garment needed for a Classifier
    - Location: Richmond Rod & Gun Club (3155 Goodrick Ave., Richmond)

We currently have eight shooters signed up, and can accomodate eight more. To sign up, send an email to me at jim@goldengate-idpa.com.

If you are interested in starting in IDPA, a Classifier Match is a great first step, since there is less movement than a normal match, and you do not have to wear a concealment garment over your gun (i.e. jacket, vest, etc.).

A full description of a Classifier Match can be found beginning on page 66 of the IDPA rulebook.

You can also now join IDPA online.

I'm one of them and I just received my IDPA card last week. The way I shot at Chabot's match last week, I might end up in the ESP Novice class.

How often will y'all run the classifier. IDPA is a sport I've wanted to add and have yet to find a place that runs it regularly.

      Thanks,

      Rich

        Rich,

Most clubs hold one per year, but we're running several to get people qualified for the regional match we're holding in July.

Aside from the one on the 31st, we'll hold another on Saturday, June 21st. It will probably be awhile before we hold another one.

Keep in mind that you can also start by shooting a regular match. If you are instinctively safe with your handgun (muzzle awareness, finger out of trigger guard when moving/reloading), and you take things slowly, there is no reason you can't start by coming to a regular match.

Richmond holds matches every other month, but because the next match (July) is the regional championship, we won't have a regular "local" match until September.

I don't know where you are located, but there is a club outside of Sacramento that holds monthly matches. Good bunch of people, and very welcoming to new competitors.

Hope this helps. Feel free to PM me if you have any more questions.

        Jim

No, you can only have one gun on you at a time.

But you can register for the classifier for more than one division. The hard part is the timing. We don't want the event to drag on all day, so everyone will shoot stage 1, then everyone shoots stage 2, etc.

If you are going to classify in two different divisions, then you need to move to the Safe Area to gear up and change guns, and then get back to shoot the 2nd gun on the same stage before we've moved to the next stage. We won't have time to run you through all the stages with Gun #1, then start over with Gun #2.

If you are doing something like using a 1911 in .45acp to classify in CDP, and a 1911 in 9mm for ESP, and you use the same holster/mag pouches for each, then we can have you just switch the guns at the firing line. Otherwise, you have to change gear in the Safe Area. Do-able, just need to be prompt on swapping your gear each time.

            Jim,

I've shot IPSC for over 10 years and have won many stages and matches at Richmond. Thanks for the info and I'll be there in September probably shooting CDP or ESP. Basically, I've shot 3 IDPA matches in the past at the club level and won them. Not saying the same will happen at Richmond, but I like the mental challenge of IDPA. Besides...it's another game to play.

By more than one gun, I meant running the classifier in more than one division.

For those of you who have signed up for tomorrow's classifier,

The fee is $10. I would appreciate it if you could bring the exact amount since I will little change on me.

You will need 90 rounds minimum. I recommend 120 to 150 in case you have to re-shoot any of the stages. Directions to the range can be found here:

Steve Cachia has already managed to get the results posted (thanks Steve!):

Thanks Vince. You still have to help me with all this wheelgun silliness. I need a bad *** revo for the IRC next year.

I was out for a little IPSC practice and watched some of y'all classify, it looks like fun! Someone told me the next times I could go try out the IDPA but I already forgot - where's a schedule at (either Richmond or Chabot) with dates? It was June... 21st (22nd?) I think?

What a humbling experience. I had some misses on all three stages.
At least now I know the trick...accuracy before speed.

Anyone knows what gun Henrick uses? I think I need to watch him shoot next time.

Glock 34 with hollow points. He was on a mission.

Unfortunately my regular USPSA gun (CZ SP01) is too heavy to use in IDPA, so I had to use my G34 (stock, except the sights which are Dawson Precision). Ammunition was my USPSA load, 147gr Zero JHPs in front of 3.95gr VV 340, ~140 factor.

Yeah, accuracy definitely beats speed, especially when it's all limited round count.

I post a NorCal pistol competition list every month. Here is June's (including the Classifier).
