Poll : One eye or two???

OK, I didnt find this anywhere after a few searches...

To avoid flamers and criticism, I do understand that in a real firefight it is advisible to use both eyes open for multiple reasons.

However there seems to be a lot of difference in opinion when target or competition shooting.

So what do you all use for these situations, one or two eyes open?

You always, always shoot both eyes open. It's all about transitions, target to target, that's where you gain the speed. Everything that works good in competition works good in a gunfight. Faster and more accurate....

I would use one-eye-open for bullseye competition. Anything action-pistol related...two eyes open.
My friends and family disavow all knowledge of my existence, let alone my opinions.

30+ years ago I was taught to close my left eye since I'm a right hander, but I have noticed the trend seems to be both eyes open now. I'm trying to train that very old habit out! <-- its tough to break a habit you've had since youth!

I am primarily asking about bullseye shooting, where some still opt for one eye'd...

Both eyes open. It's a must for any situation. All about peripheral vision; it's the fastest for acquiring multiple targets, and awareness.

I used to shoot pistols with weak eye closed, then when I went to open with red dot I learned to shoot everything with both eyes open. I am right eye dominant and when I shoot iron sight now, I cant the pistol a little to my right so irons are aligned with my right eye and am then able to easily use both eyes open, works for me.

I still close weak eye when shooting rifles with magnification optics though.

I always shoot with both eyes open (USPSA, IDPA, rifle) - even with a magnified riflescope.

“…to fire with both eyes open… is scientifically correct, but I’ve known too many superb riflemen who close one eye…I think untrained sniper students should learn the two-eye method and experienced marksmen should try the two-eye method, but no one has a monopoly on this issue”.

For all you IDPA/USPSA shooters who normally shoot both eyes open, what about at far targets (20-25+ yards), or on tagets that are well covered by no shoots? I find myself switching to one eye only on those types of shots.

Both open when target is relatively near.. One eye when it's far.. That works for me..

I shoot both eyes open if possible
since I am cross-dominant, I cannot use both eye on certain rifles, such as AK.

                            Some interesting results so far...

                            2/3rds say two eyes

                            1/3rd use one

                            Keep them coming!

Both eyes open, but to be honest, I only really see out of one well enough to shoot, so it is kind of like having one shut.
