    IDPA Gear

For people that shoot IDPA, could you please post the gear that you use such as Holster, Mag holder, Belt, Vest, Shoe. I'd like to try shooting IDPA and wasn't sure what gear I have from IPSC that I could use in IDPA.

I'm running a fairly stock Glock 34. I use a Heinie CGR cut rear sight, and a Dawson fiber optic front sight. Did a little grip tape work. My holster is a Comp-Tac belt slide, and I'm using el cheapo Uncle Mike's kydex double mag pouch for my mags. I do use a 5.11 vest as my cover garment.

    It works well for me.

      Hey Anthony,
If you're shooting USPSA Production, then your gear shoot directly translate. I use my G17 with 3.5 connector, grip tape all around and Warren Tactical sites. As far as the Bat Belt, double mag pouches and paddle holster, all from Bladetech. Interesting point about the shoes. :-)
      Hope this helps.

Ky-Tac holsters, and whatever mag pouches work for you/ you can scrounge cheap. I don't have a gamers cover garment, just use whatever suits the current weather conditions best. I could do well to buy some kind of stereotypical "photographers vest" since they have some natural heft and will swing out of the way quickly and easily.

Are cover garments or vests required? I think that's the only one that I don't have.

Usually, yes, you need a cover garment unless you're shooting the classifier or specifically spelled out by the stage. You don't need anything fancy as long as you can clear it during the draw and mag reloads and it conceals your setup.

You don't nessessarily need a vest, a jacket or coat the completely conceals your pistol and mags will do just fine. Try the sport out before you spring some bucks out for a vest.

any type of vest that you have will do. If you're worrying about clearing the vest, put a couple of rounds in each side pocket of the vest. That'll put enough weight in the corners to take the material out of the way. That's what I used to do...

Gun - Stock G21 with LWD barrel (use moly bullets) for SSP

                    Hoster - Comp-Tac paddle holster. http://www.comp-tac.com/catalog/prod...eb95028ba2a071

Mag pouches - Ready Tactical. http://www.skdtac.com/index.asp?Page...ROD&ProdID=924

CR Speed - inner belt (I use the inner and outer belts for USPSA).

Shoes - cleats are a no go in IDPA. I wear Nike Shox.

                    Vest - 5.11 Tactical

                      Blade-Tech Stingray holster
Blade-Tech Double Mag pouch with Stingray loop
Wilderness Tactical Instructor Belt (1-1/2", Added stiffness 5-stitch)
                      Woolrich Elite Vest
                      Woolrich Elite Pant
                      Original SWAT Classic 6" boot

I use the same gear for IPSC production, except I ditch the vest and add another double mag pouch.

Do I hear a young pup barking????

To answer the original posters question. I use a Glock 34, Blade Tech holster and mag pouches. With a Wilderness or leather belt. If you have USPSA gear just bring what you have to a match and plead that you are a newbie to IDPA. Most clubs will let you shoot and you can check it out to see if you like it.

As for a cover garment just bring a longish shirt and use that. If you decide the game is for you, then get a vest like Mr. Joshua's. I hear he has special springs and weights that make it pop open when he draws his G34

                        Best regards,
                        Keith

I heard it has a sensor that reacts to the sound of the buzzer and just opens on it's own. And....his gun magically pops out his holster at the same time.

If someone has a gun and is trying to kill you, it would be reasonable to shoot back with your own gun.
