          That depends on whether it's a 1911 or ??

Edit: Didn't catch the 1911 part in the OP so never mind the above. The answer is CDP.

Custom Defensive Pistol can be a 1911, but it does not have to be. It only needs to be a semi-auto .45acp, weigh in at 41 ounces maximum (with empty mag), fit the IDPA gun box with mag, and load to a maximum of 8 rounds in the mag plus one in the chamber. You can shoot a Glock 21 in CDP if you want.

By the way, it's not a class, it's a division.

You can also shoot it in ESP, but most shoot in CDP.

Yes, and you can download your .45acp to a 125 floor, so a 230 grain only needs to go 544 feet per second... You can watch the bullet go to the target.

took the clinic Saturday....great time good instruction very informative.

observation:this not billed as a beginner/basic handgun class and as such one needs to have some formal training in recent past. It was easy to spot the folks that have never moved off the firing line with a loaded weapon. The S/O's were one top of things and never let something unsafe happen, but here was the opportunity to really screw up.

Don't know where your location is, but if it is anywhere around Lincoln Ca. You are smack dab in the middle of 2 great IDPA clubs.

1911 in 45 fits best in CDP, and is probably the 2nd best platform for that division. It can also be used successfully in ESP with or without downloaded ammo. Winning is about performance on demand, not about equipment choice. Better equipment just makes it a little easier.
